Last year I filmed a web commercial for Target focusing on creating a festive table. I used simple every day items from target and layered in some vintage pieces too. It was fun and stress free to pull it together.

Layering interesting textures and fabrics makes for an interesting background to build upon. I commonly find unfinished or discarded needle points and always love to find a purpose to exhibit the labor of love.

I'm not too good at labour intensive art and craft projects. But I do like to make things that are unique. I found some stationary and sticky letters and made some place setting cards.

Layering affordable dinnerware, cutlery and linens is so much more satisfying and user friendly than "special occasion" pieces. And then adding little special details, makes it all priceless.

While pastels is where I naturally go for my palette, sometimes seasons and events have a different plan. I can embrace colors outside of my comfort zone, so long as I can still blend in elements that stay true to my aesthetics. Adding a floppy silk bow keeps the bolder colors in the world of softness.

Every little detail plays a role of equal importance. I was so happy with the affordability but still lavish end result.

In my design studio we are busily making decorations that will find their way into the stores over the next few weeks. Once again, we are using some vintage trinkets and some affordable bits and bobs.

I so love my drawers and boxes of treasures and trinkets. Whether for a special occasion or "just because," I can make any day feel like Christmas. and that's pretty special.

Rachel, it was so nice to meet you in Texas! My daughter and I were giddy for a little while afterward!?! and now it just makes all the things we already cherish from your creative hand that much more special. I hope you will be in London the next time we are! We will definitely visit the Notting Hill store. Can hardly wait! - Deborah

ReplyDeleteOn a totally different note, I was on the hunt for the last two years for new white sheets. Not sateen. Not shiny. Just cool, crisp sheets. Is that too difficult? Yep. I hit dead end after dead end.
I discovered your sheets at Target and absolutely fell in love. They are perfect! As soon as I'd washed the set twice I went back for more for the guest bed.
Thank you for giving us quality even at Target.
Rachel~I really enjoy seeing a new post show up on your blog. The text & pictures are scrumptious.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever considered doing a magazine? My life would be spent waiting by the mail box..lol.
Hugs,
Maria

You make it all look so effortless and inviting. It appears oppulent and expensive-looking even though it was done affordably and creatively. Your inspiration is priceless!

That looks so inviting and warm. I just love the vintage embroidery that you've used with its tattered edges. Wish I was hosting Christmas this year as I'd love to do something like this....actually....gives me a great idea for a ladies lunch! Thanks for the beautiful inspiration.

Received your latest book last week and I was so amazed by your private thoughts you shared about life, love and comfort. A home is so much more than just choosing the right furniture, it´s all about making it personal. I truly thinks the best homes are the ones you get a sense of the owner without them even being there...
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Rachel ! hope you will have charming little gifts as you like ! Best regards from Paris
