Over the years there have been selections of quilts at Simply Shabby Chic at Target and Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic Couture™. However truth be told I have never paid much attention to the culture, history, passion and world of quilting.

As always, whenever I am involved in any project my inspiration book is where I gather my thoughts....
This collection of of quilting fabrics are designed from archives of Shabby Chic fabrics from years gone by.... lovely pink, blue and green florals, stripes and solids...

While the Shabby Chic palette has had a signature of pastels for 20 years and more, choosing the exact colors is a crucial part of the design process. Paint, yarn or nature contributes to the recipe of the perfect palette.

Sometime back in the spring was when I was first introduced to the quilting community. I loved the timelessness of the craft. Quilting circles, creativity and conversation. Such a rare hands on socialization in today's society. The quilting world to me stands for old time values, appreciation of detail, patience and pride. I have always been a knitter, which has similar qualities, but I am so happy to have been introduced and welcomed into this new community.

There are several wonderful collections under the Treasures by Shabby Chic, available at different quilting stores across the country, and actually the world. (view the stores at ShabbyChic.com)

Cool summer nights or cozy winter days, a quilt applies. And knowing the handy work and care that is stitched into every quilt is pure love.

I love this collection so much. One day soon my laundry room at my B and B, The Prairie by Rachel Ashwell will have some new additions of these lovely fabrics, stitched into yummy quilts.

Love those quilts Rachel.Something nice to take on the next picnic or ballgame.

I love everything you put together. It's happy & relaxing! I look forward to flipping every page of your new book.
ReplyDeleteOh very pretty Rachel. Love those fabrics and they will be beautiful quilts. I posted today about a wonderful woman, Shayna, who worked for you many years ago when she was in Pacific Heights in San Fran. She tells the story of how she fell in love with your furniture and since she couldn't afford it, she walked in and asked for a job and happily got hired, and spent all her paychecks buying things she loved from Shabby Chic. She said she learned so much from those years working in your store and credits you with making a mark on her personal style.
ReplyDeleteInspiring!
ReplyDeleteQuilts are priceless to me. They remind me of visiting our family's lake home and my Grandmother cooking in that huge kitchen.
ReplyDeleteI hope to visit your ranch soon, your website is so lovely.

You've given this new community your own spin. Beautiful colors, and very you.
ReplyDeleteWhat...wait...you were in SLC for the quilt show?!! I can't believe I missed you! With our pioneer heritage (proud to be a daughter or great great grand daughter I should say of a Utah Pioneer)quilting was a necessity. My grandma was one of the best quilters in Utah for a time...so many memories her with her quilts, and sitting under the quilt with the sun beaming through my "quilt tent" as she stitched. Love you Rachel!
ReplyDeletejust beautiful. I have a bit of a quilt obsession which is brilliant, finding places to store them in our home - not so good!
ReplyDeleteI looove them so much ! Too cute in my shabby french tiny house !

As always just perfect.. I'm very much looking forward to your new book, it's already on my Christmas list and I will be cosying up in my favourite chair all winter with it :) x
ReplyDeleteLove these fabrics!
ReplyDeleteQuilting reminds me of the past, and my collection of old quilts that I have. I think my favorite are the "signature quilts" (I think that is what they are called). In the late 1800's, early 1900's women would gather and work on quilts together. They would stitch their signatures on these beautiful quilts that were red & white! Small world, the photographer for Target that shoots photos of your beautiful things that Target carries, came into the store last week and bought a bunch of stuff from us to use in her photos! Can't wait to see the pixs!
ReplyDeleteTake care Rachel,
Sue
You need a cat sleeping on some of those quilts. I want to make a painting of some of those photos.

Beautiful inspiration from you today!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous fabrics so pretty & dreamy
ReplyDeleteOne of your Target quilts has graced my bed for a couple of years now. The print is blue and green and the walls of the bedroom are celery and they complement each other quite nicely. I stop by here from time to time and find I'm always inspired to go home after work and do something "shabby chic" to fulfill the inspiration. Thanks so much for sharing your charming style.
ReplyDeleteA fan in Florida, Constance
