The Rose Less Traveled

In the past few months I have travelled from London to New York, spending time in both Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic Couture Stores and visitng with friends and my family. Then onto Minneapolis to discuss future projects of Simply Shabby Chic at Target headquarters and then to Los Angeles for a book signing and babyshower and finally to the High Point furniture fair in North Carolina.

Two oversized pink flowers travelled the world with me.

TravellingRoses

Funny how its the simplest things in life that become showstoppers.

In Southern California a lovely store hosted a book signing for me. Every possible detail was considered.

Vignettes

It was nearly a year ago that my life seemed to be in crumbling mode.
The British quote "Keep Calm and Carry On" became the mantra in my office.
What a difference a year makes.

keepcalm

Sometimes I question how I became so lucky to have experienced all that I have.
I do make sure I acknowledge all the lovliness that crosses my path.

chocolates

In between travels I had a tea party/baby shower for my dear friend Jaimee who runs Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic Couture.

It was a group effort of all of the west coast associates of Shabby Chic.

alice

We pulled together some fun vintage items and some arts and craft projects and made for a personal lovely event. Quite affordably.

RoseTravelling

Thru Angie's direction lots of lovely little details .....

customizing

I was given a bunch of sweet peas and pink carnations and they turned out to be the perfect flowers for the event.

carnations

Last stop High Point North Carolina, for the High Point furniture show. I was there attending the launch of a wholesale collection of "Shabby Chic" furniture. This is a beautiful line (different to the line in Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic Couture stores) of furniture and fabrics that is constructed and designed at a competitive price point. Many retailers from coast to coast purchased the collection. Still appreciating mushy and comfy.

All such lovely events.

Think I will leave the roses in Los Angeles.

  15. I want those roses! :O)

I have recently rediscovered my love of carnations. For so long I wouldn't buy them, some kind of misplaced snobbery. Then last year I found some gorgeous sepia coloured ones in Sainbury's of all places, and I realised that I love them. Beautiful, ruffly, robust flowers that last ages. Now I happily buy them whenever I see some that take my fancy. And unlike most flowers sold in shops these days, they usually have their delicate frangrance in tact.

You have been a busy lady. Do you ever get time to put your feet up on a ruffly footstool?!

For me "Keep calm and carry on" reminds me of the Shabby Chic world (I know the true story, but I prefer this one !) I have it everwhere, in my kitchen, in my office... and it helps me to stay in this particular world of beauty and way of living, that's why Shabby Chic is a kind of philosophie. You travel a lot ! you surely have much more flight hours than me now !Have a great week-end !

Hi Rachel..I was @ Vignettes the day you were there and I am also a vendor there and was able to meet you and your lovely staff...I am so glad you love my birds and the sweet sentiment "Keep Calm and Be Joyful" since my name is Joy I thought it befitting for the birds for that day!! It was a truly magical day...and what a treat to be able to spend a day hearing about all your design services and eat delectable treats and sip champagne! What a pleasure to be a part of this special day!!

  36. Hi Rachel, enjoyed your update, everything you share is always so magical........and makes me long to get back to NY and visit the shop again. I'd also love to see Vignette in San D., it looks fabulous!

I'll be off to Africa next week, a huge safari adventure with three of my Brit girlfriends! We'll be traveling with those ugly khaki duffel bags and bush clothing.........perhaps shabby, silky pink roses or carnations would do the trick!!

Where will the new line of furniture be sold and under what manufacturer's name?

    Stay joyful dear!

Years ago my aunt told my mother not to let me paint my room pink....it would make me weak...sigh....ridiculous. So my mother painted only half my wall pink and sponge painted over it with white....it was very pretty. Anyway, your style is divine! I am now a lover of all things Shabby and Chic! Please stop by and say hi if you have a moment! Big squishy hugs,
