Finally I am truly happy to post confirmed dates of my book signing
tour. Due to one hundred thousand things going on in my life, and my
desire to meet as many of you as possible I will keep adding dates over
the next few months.
Let me know where you all are. Even though I can't get to every nook
and cranny of the world, I will try and make some central stops and
consolidate locations to meet as many of you as possible.
I am so very much looking forward to thanking as many of you in person
for supporting me these past months.
This blogging world has been a wonderful tool, and twittering will be
next. But never a replacement for the real thing, of meeting in person..
The process of this book will always be my personal reminder of events
that happened during various days of shooting.
Many tears were shed shooting the cover and my poor photographer had to
make magic with my puffy red eyes. I have quite a variety of terrible jokes
that were an attempts to make me laugh. Through it all I am thrilled with
the evolution of my designs captured in the photos. My writing and thoughts
during these days were very articulate. Not that I wrote about my dramas.
(that's another book) but being raw forces clear thinking, no fluff to get sidetracked with.
More proof my "my normal" coming back is I will head to Brimfield next week.

Its been just a little too long that I haven't gotten up in the dark and
cold, and met my travel companions to trundle off to search for
treasures.

Trying not to consume too many beverages as to avoid the
porta potties and eating Dunkin' Donuts for breakfast, such a delicious
no no. All the while still getting the excited feeling of butterflies in
my stomach as I approach the possible finds of the day.

So I am not sure what my purpose of shopping will be. For 20 years I had
a specific purpose... I just need to get out in the fields and I
will work out why I am there.
I continue to build my vision on my new day, when I will get back to "my
normal " life wherever and however that may be.

Ideas creep into my dreams late at night, as my days are still yucky
with paperwork. But my true "normal" knows to find a way to let what I
love come into my mind, even it I am sleeping.
I know the nights when have had the dreams, as the next day my creativity
is on fire.
I left London and I finished packing up dad's house.
It felt sad leaving my mums tiny garden behind. She loved it very much.
I cut one final display of roses. She would have been proud.

The flat dad purchased shares communal gardens with a beautiful
English church, and I discovered that the church actually the owns
of the freehold of dad's new flat.

So truly feel he is in gods home, I feel very good about that.
I feel lucky to have spent a few days in the beach at Malibu.
There is something in "my normal" about being here.
Even though I am an English city girl at heart, the rhythm of the
waves, reconnects me to "my normal", as for sure I have had days of
being out of rhythm. That's for sure.

It's really amazing as crazy as life gets for us all,
the rhythm of nature, seasons, the timing of waves, the sun and moon,
grounds us all, as long as we pay attention, and connect we can then
keep all of our "normals".
That's a good thing.
Please keep an eye on book events
which are listed on my website. I
would love to meet you all, if you
are able to come to any of the dates.

ReplyDeleteI hope that you will be in Europe (Paris or London) for your book signing. Maybe WH Smith in Paris or Brentano's!
Have a lovely summer.
Liz (Brittany, France)
Since my mom being diagnosed with cancer and our home being put up for sale..I sit up late at night (like now) and wonder when my life will get back to "normal" then I think what is "normal"? Normal means different things to every one of us. Your normal, miss rachel is finding the beauty in life and homes and sharing it with us..because we truly appreciate it and have learned so much. The world is a better place for having shabby chic in it.
ReplyDeletejust remember.."the best things in life..aren't things.

Hi Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the new book and if you return to London for your book tour that would be fantastic!
Thank you for keeping in touch with us all through your blog, I'm so pleased I've visited your stores in Santa Monica and NY ober the years on holidays and was sorry to see there end but I'm sure your next project will be equally fantastic.
Victoria xx

Anxiously awaiting your book now!
ReplyDeleteDallas/Fort Worth, TX. I will for sure come to one of the signings.
ReplyDeleteRachel, we love you and your creations so much!!! Can you get to Rochester NY?
ReplyDeleteMz Ashwell, I'm not seeing any book signing dates on your website. Perhaps I'm looking at the wrong website? :/ Would it be wishful thinking for Sydney, Australia to be included in your book tour? I would be ever so thrilled for the opportunity to meet you. You were my initial inspiration to follow my bliss and become an Interior Designer.
ReplyDeleteAnna :)
Please come to New England for a book signing. I live near Hartford, Connecticut. I am so looking forward to your new book, it will be wonderful I am sure. I hope all the difficulties you have experienced have made you a stronger and wiser person. I am writing this in bed, surrounded by your beautiful bedding, please know what comfort it brings me each and every day. Warm regards, Mary in CT
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new book coming out. Your journey has been long and each day brings with it another road for you to explore, starting with Brimfield!!
ReplyDeleteHugs & big wishes for you, Nerina :)
Hi Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to hear that things are moving forward for you. Your new book cover looks just beautiful. I am looking forward to adding it to my library! I wanted to view your book signing dates and the only website I know of yours is www.shabbychic.com and I don't see signing dates there. Could you post a link to your website, where the signing dates are? I live in Asheville, NC and would love to attend one of your signings if you are anywhere near me.
Fondly,
Penny
p.s. you can email me at lavenderhillstudio@mchsi.com
Oh Rachel, I'm so glad to see your are feeling more yourself with your new book and going to Brimfield. And your book signing tour will be wonderful, when you meet so many whom you have inspired. Come to the Oklahoma City area!
ReplyDeleteNot by might, nor by power, but by my spirit... says the Lord of hosts.
ReplyDeleteZechariah 4:6
God's Grace Will See You Through
I want you to face the mountain
so that you can see,
when the mountain is out of the way
all there is left is Me.
Only I can move the mountain,
only I can push it away,
only I can conquer the problems
that you face today.
Your only job is to believe, to listen
to My voice,
and when you hear what I command,
obedience is your choice.
But I will not make it too difficult for the
victory is already Mine,
and i will fill you with My Spirit and through
you My grace will shine.
Not when you are perfect,
like you think you need to be,
but when your heart is willing to become more and more like Me.
from the book New Day New You by Joyce Meyer
God Bless you Rachel :)
Best, Patricia
Beautiful post! I look forward to your book! Have a great time treasure hunting!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Lisa
Please come to Coral Springs, Florida! We would love to have you here! Of course, the economy has affected our part of the world as much as any other, and the little shop that I loved because of its shabby chic style sadly closed its doors almost a year ago -- just before I was able to redeem my birthday gift certificate that I'd asked for :o(
ReplyDeleteLoved your post about "My Normal". We're trying to find our new normal around here with a new baby in the house and extra needs from the de-throned toddler. The new normal always comes (this is our 7th baby, so I know that I know that I know that it does always come eventually), but we're presently still finding our rhythm. We're enjoying the days while we find our new way. I keep talking about finding our new normal...and here you are talking about finding yours. It's comforting to remember that others are in the "same boat", even though our "boats" are different. I've prayed for you for the past several months, and add -- once again -- my voice to the crowds of people who are confident that you'll come out of this in a beautiful big way. You've reminded all of us to surround ourselves with beauty -- a truly beautiful life will certainly always be yours for the living!
God bless you!
~Jill~
Dear Rachel,
ReplyDeleteYour post really touched me. I too have had many "down-turns" in my life this past year. Very similar to yours. Last week I went on a health retreat by myself in order to reconnect with my body and spirit. I gave up many things during the week but the hardest and most important was to give up my cell phone. It had become a co-dependent device to me. I want to return to my "normal" way of living, that is speaking in person to people and short chats on the phone. No more texting and scheduling. I feel fantastic without it now. Thank you for being such a beautiful inspiration in my life for so many years.

Hi Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI can perfectly imagine in what state of mind you can be as you had two shocks in your life recently and now you must figure out how you will continue your activity, because you will, you have to, you are much too young and too successful to stop just here. Fortunately for you as for me , we have children to still take care of, and family to watch sometimes. After all, isn't it wonderful to be needed by our beloved ? I would like to reach my "normal" life since four years. In 2005, we were supposed to move to USA, my husband, younger son and I (my elder son works in Tokyo) but just before leaving, my husband dumped me for a young girl in spite of our 20 years together. I have been so sad that I literally turned out sick during one year, unable to make my craft, anything and then in 2006, we decided my son and I to move together to Los Angeles in spite of all. In 2008, I asked for an investor visa, after many adventures, which has been denied, because my demand was unclear, so I decided to buy a store and I am asking again for an E2 visa right now. My son and I have traveled between L.A. and Paris a lot and couldn't really have a "normal" life all this time, though my son managed to graduate from high school at the "lycee Francais". I hope my normal will come back soon as my craft misses me so much, and I want to finally find my home and peace.
I am in Paris right now, taking care of my mother who had a brain attack a few months ago. She's almost fine and has been very lucky. It's nice to be in Paris but I would like to retrieve my normal, a new normal in Los Angeles. Go back to the flea markets too, so fun, make paintings and collages. Simply live and that my son goes to college. Wish it will happen for you as for me. Happiness is at the corner of the street, I am sure.

Anxiously awaiting your beautiful new book, Rachel. Consider coming to Champaign-Urbana, Illinois! The heartland would love to see you!

Annie
Your new book cover is so lovely. I look forward to purchasing it. If you are in the Boston or Cape Cod area my daughter & I would love to meet you!
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't mind a story to make you smile -- my daughter is getting her first apt as a senior in college. She needs free furniture so I offered a squashy comfortable love seat with bad faded blue denim upholstery. "Yuck," she said. "We could slipcover it," I said. "Shabby Chic?" she said, "That would be wonderful!"
As for flea markets, they are such surprising re-chargers, one never needs to know what one is looking for. Ideas, inspiration, fabulous treasures will always find you! Have fun!
~Marilee

ReplyDeleteCome to Austin!! Can hardly wait!! The beauty added to my life because of Shabby Chic affects and nourishes me daily. Thank you!

I LOVE reading your blog and it goes without saying I LOVE all your "stuff". I have pre-ordered your book and can't wait to get it. It would be so awesome if you came to Salt Lake City, Utah. I know it's out of the way but it's a great place! I am so glad I visited your store in Newport a year or so ago. Please keep going and know how many of us love your work and your words and your thought and on and on! You are the Queen of Shabby Chic! Thanks for everything. Kathy
ReplyDeleteHave you ever considered designing quilt fabric lines? Google "Moda fabrics" they have yummy lines. I'd buy your fabric lines!!!
ReplyDeleteTake care, YOU will be fine...
Oh Rachel you just have to come to Melbourne, Victoria AUSTRALIA. We really would love to have you here. We really missed out by not having one of your stores here when so many of us love your style. We will be lined up for miles down the road to meet you and buy your latest book.

Dallas is asking for you & Austin is asking for you, so I will ask that you stop in here as you head out from Dallas. A smaller town - Tyler. We love you here!

There are many wonderful things in Ann Arbor. I know you would love the antique shops and deli's. I can't wait for your book. I will keep you in my prayers.God Bless You Rachel!
ReplyDeleteHi, Rachel! Please come to Philadelphia! I have been too sad to leave a comment since your stores closed, and I felt that my words would sound empty. Now I feel positive vibes, instead of sadness :) One of my dreams is to meet you! I'm so excited about your book!
ReplyDeleteYour new book looks absolutely lovely - I can hardly wait to be inspired. Good luck with everything.
ReplyDeleteStumbled upon your blog a week or so ago and am truly moved by your posts. Looking forward to your new book in the fall.
ReplyDeleteI've learned that life can tend to throw us off course, spinning us round & round till we're dizzy and lost. We find ourselves on a new course, heading in what seems a strange direction but ultimately leading us back to ourselves, wiser, stronger, with more grace than we ever thought possible.
Best wishes.
Dear beautiful Rachel:
ReplyDeleteLife is truly taking one step at a time...one day at a time. I am looking forward to your book. Come to Atlanta for a signing!
So glad to hear that your Dad is settled.
ReplyDeleteAnd so happy to hear that you too are feeling a little more settled.
I think if you go to the flea market you should get at least one thing for yourself, just one thing to commemorate feeling 'normal' again.
How bittersweet this book must have been to do, how bittersweet for us to read.
I'll be sure to mark October 16th on my calendar as I am in New York!
All best wishes for you, Rachel,
~ Eileen
I was a fan of your Shabby Chic store in Malibu. Sorry to see is closed. I penciled in your book signing in Malibu. Hope to meet you in October!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new book.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to get a copy.

Oh goody, another lovely book by you Rachel..please come to Vancouver, Canada..
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to see your new book. I have read your other books from cover to cover. You inspire me and I have learnt so much from a design perspective. I live in northern Canada, so I am off the beaten track for book signings! I was saddened to read that Shabby Chic had ended as I always enjoyed your designs and dreamed of owning a sofa to sink into. My "normal" changed when I moved from a huge city to a small town (Husband's job) and I felt completely lost and out of place. Decorating blogs have kept me connected and summers of garage sales have helped me find my new normal.
ReplyDeleteHere's to you finding yours. Marion
Hi Rachel -
ReplyDeleteI have adored your Shabby Chic philosophy for years. I was saddened to learn that the stores had closed (I didn't realize they had closed until about 1 month ago, but I was too late to make last minute purchases). I live in an 800 square foot apt. in Del Mar, CA and have always tried to incorporate your designs (I love your colors and fabrics) and the essence of Shabby Chic (from crystal chandeliers, to candles, to less is more, and acquiring functional yet shabby end tables/coffee tables).
I'm delighted to learn of your new book and if you cannot get to San Diego, I will be happy to drive up to Costa Mesa in October. I look forward to meeting the wonderful woman who inspired me to decorate my apt with Simply Shabby Chic, Rachel Ashwell Treasures, and Shabby Chic collections. I cannot tell you how much I love to come home to the warmth and comfort of your designs. You have such an amazing gift and I personally am very grateful to you.
Thank you for sharing so much about your personal and professional turmoil. You deserve great things and this hurdle will pass. You have my support in wherever life takes you. Continue to believe in yourself and the beauty you create.
I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum. That loss will never get any easier but the memories will live on forever and she will always be a big part of your loving heart.
You are in my prayers.
All the best,
Kim D.
Though I won't be at your book signings (Unless you're thinking of making a trip down under?) I have pre-ordered your book on Amazon. How scrumptious just waiting for the post come October !! Yes, sad to say crazily enough, I still remember when I first purchased The Shabby Chic Home" (now completely disintergrated)and the joy it brought me as well as so very many others. Best of luck with your book tour.
ReplyDeleteRachel, so glad to see you've been reenergized and things are getting back to as normal as possible. I would love to have a book signing event for you in the Fall at Zapp Hall during the Blog Party I have each Spring and Fall if that would interest you. I know we'd have a great turnout. I had one this past Spring for Sue Whitney of Junk Market and it was a great success! Please contact me if you are interested. I wish you much success with the new book, Theresa
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you and your new book! I just love poring over your books. They always make for a wonderful, lazy, inspiring day. Please come to Southeaster Pennsylvania. What a treat it would be to meet you! Good luck in your new "normal."
ReplyDeleteI have an Amazon gift card I have been saving for your book - can't wait! If you could come to Dallas or Memphis that would be great!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your slow return to normal. I completely understand your needing to be out and about at flea markets. I closed a small shop at Christmas, but I still find wandering and searching through flea markets so renewing...so peaceful & good for my soul! Glad you are returning to it! The Why will show itself when it is time!
Hi Rachel, I already purchased my copy of your book at Amazon and it is to be delivered October 5th and I CAN'T WAIT! Love ya!

Dear Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI am so excited about your new book! The cover is absolutly beautiful! I cannot wait to have it in my hands!
Im not to far from Costa Mesa, so if you do not have a book signing anywhere closer to me, (I live in Riverside County) I will without a doubt drive to Costa Mesa.
I am looking forward to your book signing, and any new post. I love all the pictures posted.
You are an inspiration! Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic is truly a little piece of heaven on earth! (If its possible to have such beauty on earth, can you imagine what heaven must look like?:)

I am so excited about your new book!!! I am a true believer that there is a season for everything... I am at a point in my life where I am in limbo. I once had a passion and because of having three little ones and a few deaths in our immediatel family... I found myself taking a break. But as I take a break - I feel something severely missing... a passionate heart that once was is now lost and is trying to find it's place again. I often ask God for wisdom in my next step. As I venture on this journey it has taken much faith and patience... And hope for tat last puzzle piece to fit snuggly in my life again. I pray for the same for you also.
ReplyDeleteWhen you are in NYC, can you travel to Syracuse? or even Rochester for Buffalo??
Warmest blessings and hope for a passionate and fullfilled tomorrow,
Amy Sutter
Wishing you so much happiness this summer.
ReplyDeleteThe sounds of the beach are so healing and inspiring and energizing (once one is flip flopping her way home) :)
Lucky for me I have my Michigan side of Lake Michigan...dunes, gulls, waves, sun and even a bit of dappled shade.
I am very excited to hold your newest book in my hands!!! Thank you for finishing it up during such a time in your life. I am thinking that God surely has something extra special for you to do... for putting you through so much at one time.
Lastly, Chicago would LOVE to see you again!!! :)
With Kindness,
Mary

Time is always the best medicine and sleep. I had to say I shed a tear when you mentioned leaving your mom's garden behind. That had to be tough. Can't wait for the book to come out. You take care,

It will be fun and exciting-now is the time to look forward!

I am so sad to hear this news, for I too am a lover of all things cozy, pastel, and floral. I have loved your line since I first new its existence and am broken hearted that you are having to close the doors behind you. About a year ago I came to your NY store in hopes that I could meet you in persona. All I could afford at the time was a box of matches. I have cherished that purchase and want you to know that I have lived a dream through your company. I am glad to know you will still be selling at Target. I just bought a shabby chic damask rug there yesterday. LOVE it. Please come to Alabama for your book signing. It would be such an honor to meet you. Please take care and my thoughts and prayers are with you.
ReplyDeleteHi Rachel,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your latest post, it's been a little while since I've had the chance to catch up on your blog. My eldest daughter just graduated from high school a couple weeks ago and we had a family and friends over to celebrate her great milestone. She leaves for college sometime next month so I'm savoring our precious moments together as I have a home based business that allows me more freedom. I'm dreading the day her father and I will drive her to college because I know that my heart will break and I will probably cry for weeks. However, I realize that life must go on. I can only imagine what life has been like for you this past year. However, we are all in this together, no matter what. Since I began blogging 5 month's ago, it's opened my eyes to a whole other world beyond my own simple world here in upstate, NY. Anyway, I am soooooo excited you are going on a book signing tour! I live just south of Albany, New York. Borders Bookstore in in Crossgates Mall, Albany.NY. I will cross my fingers and pray that there may be a chance you can come....
All my best to you,
~ Stephanie Bradley
Dearest Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI was glad to hear that you are trying to get back to "your normal". That is always a good sign. I hope that the coming days will be easier, bit by bit...you will get there.
You have always been such an inspiration to me through your books and your show on STYLE network, which I still miss very much, but now am enjoying some of those episodes on the beautiful and peaceful Shabby Chic DVD's. Your taste is truly timeless and you are a visionary - this is how I know that you will be back again to enchant all "shabby-chicers" when the time and the project are right.
It would be wonderful if you would consider including Toronto, Canada, for a book signing, perhaps at Chapters. You have many admirers here. I will keep checking the website and keeping my fingers crossed!!
Much love and prayer go out to you and yours,
With kindest regards always.. oxox
great you are easing into normal:)
ReplyDeletelook forward to your next creative spurt!
PLEASE make your sheets again!!!! Your sheets are the only "old fashioned crisp and cool" that I can find. I miss the flowers!!!!!!

You look like a very down to earth person even if you are well knownas a writer, even by someone like me who isn't really shabby chic. Congrats to you and your new book.
ReplyDeleteHi Rachell,
ReplyDeleteI'm writting from Perú. First at all, I want to say my english is not good enough so I hope you understand.
I watch your program "Shabby Chic" on Canal Club TV, every day at night. At the begginning I didn't understand you style but then, I don't know how!!! I felt in love with all the things you showed and said. With you, I know what a Flea market is.... there are wonderfull things there!!!

Rachel, Your cover looks beautiful and I like your honesty.
ReplyDeleteI will be in Brimfield too, visiting my dear friend John from Architiques. He has the best stuff don't you think!
Happy hunting,

I lost my son and my own beloved mother within the last four months. As one chapter closes, with no apparent meaning or purpose, another book opens to a new way of life. Hoping that we both find what we were meant to at the end of this part in the novel.
ReplyDeleteCheers on the new book.

Hi Rachel
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for your book signing!!! Can't wait to get the book, I have been following your blogs for a while now, this entry sounds like you are starting to get back into the groove. I am excited for you.
Hope you can make it to Texas-Austin, San Antonio or Houston--we will definitely make the trip to see you. It would be an honor to be in your presence, yes this sounds cheesy -but your work, ideas and touch for loving all things tattered, worn and yummy is so inspiring. Hope you can stop by Texas!! Looking foward to more dates and blog entries.

I'd love it if you came to Nashville. The flea market there is phenominal -- it's held the 4th weekend of every month, and I, too, go there sometimes just for inspiration. Oh, and the Habitat for Humanity Restore there is one of the absolute best in the country, another inspiration spot, too.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for your new book, I'm sure it will be gracing my nightstand for daily doses of inspiration soon.
Many hugs,
Gina
Hi Rachel, have been hanging out for your latest book & have preordered, just have to find the paitence now under October rolls around! I was so excited to see that you will be doing book signings! I would love it if you would come to the San Francisco Bay area.
ReplyDeleteHello. I've always loved all of your work. I'm so sorry about what you've been going through. Maybe this will lead to something even more wonderful than what you've had in the past? I'm praying so.
ReplyDeleteAre you okay?
A forever fan,
Sheila

ReplyDeleteYou´re invited to come to Brussels/Belgium to meet the fans of your Shabby-Chic-Style! :D
ReplyDeleteI´m in and will certainly order your new book to complete my ´Ashwell´-collection!
Many greetings, Marjolijn
I am as excited about this new book coming out as I've ever been about anything. You changed my life several years ago with the style you introduced. It came at a time when I really needed it. I had just given birth to a child with a severe disability and I knew the way I decorated would not do with the new lifestyle we would have to live. SO thank you and I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteSmiles,
June
Oh, Rachel--Please, pretty please, come to Washington, DC! I promise to bring you some fresh, home-baked cookies!
ReplyDeleteAll my Shabby books are dog-eared from years of reading, re-reading, sharing with friends, and watching them embrace your beautiful decorating style. I can't imagine a better gift than your autograph on your newest book and one of my old ones!
See you soon in the DC area (fingers crossed)! My friends and I will happily take the day off work to see your pretty face and remind you that--no matter the tough times behind you--better days lie ahead.
Rachel,

To Noorda Notebook --
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem with accessing the site. Do an internet search for "Shabby Chic" and then click on the link from the search. You should be able to access the website that way.
I so hope that you will make it to Tampa! Excited about the new book! Happy that you are getting back to normal!
ReplyDeleteCome up to the San Francisco, Bay Area for your signing. I'd love to meet you.
ReplyDeleteStay strong......

Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI am optimistic of the "refresh" process you are going through now. I look forward to buying your new book (it looks stunning). As a fellow Brimfield shopper, perhaps I will recognize some pieces (and kick myself in the bum for not buying them first-lol). Such cool weather for a July Brimfield, eh?
Welcome back
Rachel,
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are slowly feeling "normal". It takes a long time to start feeling normal after the rug has been taken out from beneath you. Your blog has been an inspiration, so beautifully written.
Can't wait to buy your book.We would love for you to have a book signing during Round Top week this fall! Good Luck in wherever you path may go.
Rachel
ReplyDeleteDon't hesitate to share what finds you've come across, you'll always be our style goddess! Love ya, Lori
Hi Rachel,
ReplyDeleteHope everything is on the mend and you are doing ok.
Come to Australia!!!!! Nothing makes you fees as good as a walk along our beaches amongst the wildlife and a simple BBQ and a few beers!!!
Looking forward to the new book!
All the best,lesley : )
I've loved the Shabby Chic style since the early 90's. On a trip to Santa Monica I made a point to visit your lovely store and wished I could buy everything in that store! (The Shabby Chic style also inspired me to visit Brimfield and hunt for vintage beauties - so FUN!).
ReplyDeleteAfter my visit to Santa Monica I bought some Shabby Chic sheets and they were the softiest sheets EVER. I haven't been able to find anything close since. But will check Target!
Rachel you've been such an inspiration to me! (I used to watch your TV show also - it was so awesome!). I just happen to think this morning I should check the Shabby Chic website and see if I can buy some sheets online -- and so sad to see you had to close your stores... I will try to get to Costa Mesa book signing - but if you can have a Northern Cal signing that would be terrific!
I know you will find your "new normal" because your an amazing, inspiration person! Can't wait to buy you new book! Best of luck!
-S.Marie from Sacramento, CA
Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI met you at the brimfield show last Sept. We were on Shelton field and you purchased a few items from us. I am so thrilled that you are putting another book together!! I can't wait to buy it!! Have you considered doing a book signing somewhere in Boston? I am sure you would have many people come. It's nice to see that your creative juices are a flowin again, Can't wait to see what you will do next. Maybe I will see you again at the May show, I am hoping to set up again. I had my first baby in May so I didn't get to do this May, but my goal will be to do the next May show!!
Good luck to you!!

Hi Rachel, I keep checking your blog and with this post I can sense that you have moved forward, I think I hear you feeling a bit better. I am glad you are sharing your journey through your blog. In these hard economic times it seems to me the best "medicine" is to share your story. I hope you continue your path to normal, however, I truly question what normal is? I do know family is everything and that family is my "normal" and seems so for you too. I look forward to more of your posts and of course the book! Feel good, feel normal. All the best,
ReplyDeleteKaren
Please please please come to Austin, TX!!
ReplyDeleteI love the talk of dreams. Dreams are the dessert of life. Sometimes I find at the worst time in my life is when I truly get to dream. Maybe it is the raw emotion that brings out our core. The feeling of being on fire is the best feeling for a creative person. Dream on!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the new book !!!
ReplyDeleteregards
I'm sure this is not an original idea but what about a Shabby Chic magazine?
ReplyDeleteI went to your website for design inspiration and found that your stores had closed. However your blogs have provided more wonderful inspiration than I ever imagined.
You have a gift to inspire on many levels and perhaps a magazine would be a vehicle to share that gift.

ReplyDeleteI can't wait to buy the new book and I love reading your blog.
Keep your chin up! You are truly one of a kind!

We were sitting out in her garden last night and my mom mentioned that she hadn't see your show in a long time - I told her about what had been happening with you (info I have gotten from your blog), and it was almost as if talking about someone we knew.
ReplyDeleteRachel, can you make it to southern NJ, outside of Philadelphia? The Cherry Hill area has Barnes and Noble and Borders bookstores, I think both are in Marlton. It is a very heavily populated area, lots of people means lots of sales. I'd love to meet you.
Can't wait to see the new book, and can't wait to graduate and start working so that I can decorate my home with all the wonderful ideas I have gotten from you over the years.
Jennifer
Rachel,
ReplyDeleteCome to Chicago we love you in Chicago and we pass by the empty store everyday wishing you was back in Chicago.. Everyone is looking forward to the new book!!!!
Garrett
My hope is you make it to Seattle! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you can come to Austin for your book signing. We are all missing you here!
ReplyDeleteLauren
Please come to Minneapolis! We are so sad that your stores have closed (your soft fabrics are always so inviting in the dry, cold winters); any chance you might re-open in the future? If not, a book signing will do for now:)
ReplyDeleteAnnie
Looking forward to your new book. We'd love to have you visit beautiful Savannah Georgia! Southern hospitality is the best!
ReplyDeleteRachel, I was in Chicago at the Country Living Event and learned of your company's closing. I was so shocked and disappointed. My husband and I were just in San Francisco last year admiring your store.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to learn you have a book coming out this year! Come by for a visit. http://www.teatimeconsultants.blogspot.com
Hi Rachel!, I just read your blog and am looking forward to your new book! I plan to see you in NYC! I too have had quite a year, I lost a home that I loved! it was a bit of a quirky place, vintage Florida, I loved it the way it was, polished it up a bit and decorated in the shabby chic style I love. I thought it would be my forever home, but unfortunate turns in the economy and too many cuts in my pay along with some serious health issues caused me to let it go, I was crushed, shattered. I checked into a hospital and with their help I was able to slowly come to terms with all that happened in 2008, I made it to the other side and am looking forward to starting over at 49. I still have whats most important! my health, a job that I still love to do after 20 years, my family and my close friends!. What looked like the end not long ago is slowly becoming a new beginning! I was sad to see you close, I know that pain, but we get through,... God gives us only what we can handle!. I'm glad to see your back at brimfield! and I'm looking forward to shopping with you again! you'll be back! I am resting after a long trip back from Sao Paulo, relaxing on my shabby chic bed surrounded by my favorite shabby chic linens!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, it is a pleasure to read. Thanks for the updates! and thank you for this site, I love reading it, It gives me strength! happy huntings
Would love to meet you and have a book signing event in Melbourne, Australia! (Where you have many fans.)!!
ReplyDelete-Audrey
Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how sad I am that your stores are closing. We waited what seems like forever to be able to buy many of your beautiful things (RAD sectional, 3 chandeliers, dining table and chairs...). We finally decided to go for it when you had your amazing sales going on. We drove to Austin from Ft. Worth to get our lovely things. We acquired some debt to do it, but both my husband and I were just talking about how we don't regret it at all! Please try and come to Ft. Worth for a book signing. I would love to meet you and buy your book.
Please make it to Chicago! Please, please, please! I ADORE you!
ReplyDeleteRachel~
ReplyDeleteWhat a dear heart you have. I sent you an email via the contact email address on your page. I wanted to have the chance to talk with you and bless your life. I know your schedule will be busy for a time with your new book of which the closest I could get to is in Costa Mesa where I have family, that weekend I will be at a Upper Room women's retreat. Please contact me if you have any time to chat. May you be lifted today on the wings of eagles and Angels guard your heart and mind.
Candice (Washington State)
also I have attached my email to my comment.
Oh, it makes me so very happy to read this. I feel that I am hearing "my" Miss Ashwell again!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for your new book. I have been using the library of late (economy measure) but your book is one that I will actually buy. Please, please, please come to the Ann Arbor/Detroit area on your book tour. I've wanted to meet you for such a long time.
Dearest Rachel,
ReplyDeletePlease feed this world with your talent and beauty, you have a great amount of truly devoted admirers. You have made our lives so much richer in color, in texture, in space. THANK YOU.And keep writing your blog, I peek into it everyday to see if you have posted something new.
Much love and a rainbow of blessings.

I first read about you in Intrepreneur (yes, a long time ago). Life has been hectic for me and the other day I ran across this Intrepreneur issue & thought to check out Shabby Chic website. If you happen to read this comment (among the other hundreds), I just thought to send a suggestion RE: your book signing dates:
ReplyDelete- I'd suggest to add the year to the event dates. The reason being, your home page states "Closed for Now" so I was wondering whether the dates are old (I've been to many closed web sites & the info on those are old & obsolete ... maybe at least one other reader wonders the same thing :-) ). Until I read your July 29 blogs then I understood the event dates are for 2009.
I hope this helps (that is if this comment finds you well.)
Dear Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry that you are going through so very much and my prayers are with you. I live in a small town north of Austin called Georgetown. I was so excited when your Austin store opened. Many times, I escaped my cubicle at work and spent my lunch hour lost in absolute bliss wandering through your store. The women who worked there never made me feel unwelcome, since I was not buying, instead they also chimed in when I would marvel over all of the beautiful furnishings. You had to sit down and just look because there was so much to see and something charming around every nook and corner. I knew I would come home to $10 couches from the local Goodwill store, but with matelasse coverlets and a few pillows, I could try to recreate and capture a small portion of the beauty I found there. I purchased your sheets and shower curtain from Target, for myself and for my mother and they are so lovely it makes us happy everytime we look at them. Thank you for all your dedication to your craft and your designs, you have no idea how many lives you have touched. If you come to Austin for a book signing please add me to the email list: barbarakayprice@aol.com
Best wishes,
Barbara
So glad you are beginning to feel better. I know it has been a long hard road for you. I have been praying for you over these past few months. I hope that God will continue to give you peace and direction. Blessings, Martha
ReplyDeleteDear Rachel,
ReplyDeleteHad a strange feeling this morning....Shabby Chic in my head, so I went to the web..and now I know why that voice was in my head....I am so disappointed yet I know it will all be for the best as time shows us why. You have shown me how to make a wonderful home for my family..when I lived in SanFran I bought my first sofa from you...and I still have it!! 10 years! I now live at the beach in Florida and I call my home Coastal Shabby! Thanks for everything...I will miss you cozy sheets and slipcovers...Best wishes, Mary Sarasota, Florida
Rachel,
ReplyDeleteWe would LOVE to host a book signing for you in our store! We were one of your wholesale clients for over 12 years and we have MANY clients who would love to meet you. We are just outside of Washington DC. We had a trunk show planned before everything happened and would love to host another SHABBY CHIC event with you! Having your merchandise once again grace our shelves would be a wonderful "normal" again.
Sincerely,
Nancy Hilliard and Anne Carrington
